Research the Transcendentalist movement and its key components. Answer each of the following questions, making sure to cite your sources using MLA format. Be sure to answer using your own words and quoting small sections of text, no cut and pasting or plagiarizing!

1.      Define the term “transcendentalism.”

2.      Describe some of the circumstances which led to the development of the transcendentalist philosophy. Include at least two specific events or philosophies which contributed to the development of transcendentalism and explain the influence of those events.

Junior Class News

We have finished our fourth week of school, and your children are working hard.  I have all grades current on Edline, so I encourage you to sit down for a few minutes this weekend and go over your son's or daughter's grades since we are approaching the mid term mark.

Please let me know if I may be of assistance to you or your child in any way.  We have a half day of school on Wednesday, September 11th so that we can conference with parents.  Please know I am available to meet with you individually that day between noon - 4:00 p.m.  I have only one conference scheduled at this point at 1:30 p.m.

In an effort to encourage more outside reading, the English department is requiring students in grades 7 - 12 to complete an outside reading assignment each quarter (except for the quarter we do our research assignment).  I have attached the guidelines, and I have covered these with my students in class this week.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions.  The first quarter assignment is due on Monday, October 7th.  I have encouraged my students to think ahead because Homecoming is the week prior to this due date.

Remember the Junior Class Parents Meeting on Thursday, September 12th at 6:00 p.m.  I distributed senior class ring packets to them on Thursday, so please ask them if you are interested in purchasing a ring.  We will also discuss prom and talent show at this meeting in addition to college visitation days, HOPE, etc., so I hope you will be able to attend.

I try to keep my blog up to date so you can find your child's class link on my mail blog and click over to it for handouts, information, etc.

I am enjoying this class so much.  They are full of personality! Thank you for sharing them with me.
